David Ben-Gurion did not oppose bombing the Auschwitz death camp, as William Rubinstein erroneously claims (JWire, Feb. 16). Apparently Rubinstein is not familiar with the recent research on this subject by a number of Holocaust scholars.
The rally in St Kilda last Saturday 5 January by extremist individuals espousing white supremacist views has shocked us all. Courage to Care condemns all actions targeting people based on their ethnicity or religion, and under no circumstances can the Nazi salute or the open display of Nazi symbols be tolerated or linked to sensible democratic debate.
This week's decision of the National Labor conference calling on the next Labor Government to recognize Palestine as a state marks the end of bipartisanship on support for Israel in Australia.
I note that Kehillat Kadimah, in advertising for a new Rabbi, are seeking someone with essentially the same skills and personality as the previous Rabbi of South Head Synagogue who, together with his Rebbetzen, devotedly served his community for 32 years.
The Jewish community in Australia needs to urge the Israeli Football Association to lobby FIFA hard to remove the Palestinians from that organization immediately.
