AUJS has held its Annual General Meeting, as leaders from across Australia and New Zealand gathered together to discuss policy priorities and elect the new leadership team for 2024.

AUJS Public Affairs Coordinator Noah Loven will take the reins from Alissa Foster as AUJS President, whilst Zac Morris will succeed Paris Enten as AUJS Vice President.

Loven said he is “honoured to be elected President of AUJS and be a part of a fantastic executive. Our focus for 2024 is to elevate Jewish student life and overcome the challenges Jewish students face on campuses. By building on this past year’s achievements, we want to ensure that every Jewish student in Australia and New Zealand is supported, heard and empowered to express their Jewish identity and contribute positively to the community”.

Morris said “I am really excited to continue the incredible work AUJS has done as we tackle the inevitable challenges over the next year, I am confident that we’ll be able to make a difference with the outstanding team and community we have behind us”.

Outgoing President Alissa Foster reflected: “I am incredibly proud of the work AUJS has done over the past year. This is in full credit to the hard-working and passionate team I have had the pleasure to work with. Specifically, I’d like to thank Vice President Paris Enten for her dedication, commitment and leadership over 2023. While my time in AUJS is coming to an end, the high calibre of the incoming team led by Noah and Zac makes me really excited to see what the future holds.”

AUJS General Manager Joey Wilkinson: “The AGM showcased how passionate, dedicated and innovative young people in our community can be. With several hotly contested elections, the evening was a testament to the strength of this incredible organisation. A special thank you must go out to 2023 President Alissa Foster and Vice President Paris Enten. Together, they were the driving force behind a monumental change for the better, both in AUJS and throughout the whole community. Congratulations to all the successful candidates – we can’t wait to see what you do in 2024.”

On a highly positive note, the new leadership team is filled with graduates from several of AUJS’ major programs. Loven, Zeleznikow, Levy, Harris and Strauss have all participated in major programs to Israel, including the AUJS Leadership Development Program (LDP) and the AUJS Israel Mission (AIM).

The AGM also marked a sombre occasion, with delegates unanimously supporting a motion to name Jeremy Jones AM Z”L an honorary life member of AUJS. In discussing the motion, the floor noted Jeremy’s lifelong commitment to the Jewish community and his time as an AUJS leader and mentor. In his memory, delegates pledged to expand their interfaith work on campus.

Alissa Foster said: “Jeremy was not only a mentor and inspiration, but also a friend. I know he had similar relationships with many AUJS leaders past and present. Over the past three decades, he always put up his hand to assist students, speak at conferences, and support young people in whatever way he could. There are no words to describe the quality of his impact on the community, or the kind of leader he was. He will be missed dearly.”

There are several regional and campus AGMs taking place over the next two months.
