The Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance Australia is hosting another in-person event in Melbourne with the trailblazing feminist author and activist Sally Berkovic.

Sally Berkovic grew up in Melbourne, and after living in Jerusalem and New York before an epistolary romance brought her to London where she has lived for nearly 3o years.

She is the author of Under My Hat – first published in 1997 and updated in 2019 – about the impact of contemporary social trends on the religious lives of Jewish women. Since 2009, she has been the CEO of the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe, supporting Jewish heritage and culture across Europe.

“JOFA Australia is excited to host Sally Berkovic in Melbourne and hear about her experience as an orthodox feminist,” said JOFA Australia president, Nomi Kaltmann. “We are thrilled that women in the Australian Jewish community will be able to hear from a trailblazer in this space, someone who can share her wealth of experience and knowledge with a new generation.”

Born in Australia and the daughter of Slovakian Holocaust survivors, Sally studied at Melbourne University and worked as a social worker and academic for several years. After living in Jerusalem and New York, she moved to London. She recently published a new book called “Death Duties” which describes her experiences volunteering for the Chevra Kadisha in London.

“Sally is a renowned educator and speaker. We are very much looking forward to hearing about her new book, we know that the event will be engaging and enlightening” said Kaltmann.

Tickets to the events are free and the event will be hosted in a private home in Caulfield on Tuesday 5 July 2022 at 7pm.
