Wallenberg citizenship on display

The certificate conferring Australian citizenship on Raoul Wallenberg by Prime Minister Julia Gillard at a recent ceremony held at Government House in Canberra is on public display in Melbourne.

The certificate will be exhibited alongside commemorative plates issued by the Raoul Wallenberg Unit of B’nai Brith, Victoria, in honour of the 80th birthday of Raoul Wallenberg. A small sculpture entitled ‘Women of Ravensbruck’ created by Truus Menger, herself a Righteous Gentile for saving Jews as part of her resistance activities in the Netherlands during the war, will also form part of the display..
Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who saved tens of thousands of Jews during the Holocaust, was made Australia’s first honorary citizen.

The certificate conferring Australian citizenship on Raoul Wallenberg by Prime Minister Julia Gillard at a recent ceremony held at Government House in Canberra can be seen at the Jewish Holocaust Centre in Elsternwick.

It will be on display for three weeks.
