Melbourne’s B’nai B’rith has released a special Raoul Wallenberg Stamp Sheet cancelled by Australia Post with a special postmark.

The B’nai B’rith Raoul Wallenberg Unit had been instrumental in suggesting that Raoul Wallenberg be made Australia’s First and Only Honorary Citizen which happened in early May when Governor General Quentin Bryce bestowed the honour at Government House, Canberra.  At the time Julia Gillard was Prime Minister and Tony Abbott was Opposition Leader.  Both spoke at the function  attended by politicians and representative ambassadors from a number of countries including Canada, Hungary, Israel and Sweden.

The stamp sheet  is available for sale in a limited edition of 100. Proceeds from the sales of the Stamp Sheet will assist our Pauline Glass Yad Vashem Study Grants project: each year Raoul Wallenberg Unit awards study grants to school teachers to undertake the Holocaust studies program at Yad Vashem in January.  To date, over 75 teachers have travelled to Jerusalem to undertake this program.  Upon their return, the teachers have stated that the opportunity has proved to be a life changing experience and has provided them with new teaching tools and a different approach to the studying of Holocaust in their schools.
