US chip giant Nvidia officially inaugurated its new R&D centre in Beersheba last Tuesday, completing its move to new premises in the city.
The site in Beersheba is Nvidia’s southernmost R&D centre in Israel, alongside the company’s local headquarters in Yokneam, and centres in Tel Aviv, Ra’anana and Tel Hai on the northern border. The new R&D centre is also Nvidia’s largest centre in Israel’s periphery and is part of the continued expansion of the chip company’s activities in Israel.
The new centre houses R&D teams that develop hardware and software technologies used in Nvidia’s AI infrastructure. The teams are working on solutions that allow the company to connect thousands of chips and processors, to transfer data between them at high speed and to operate the data centres on which AI models are trained and run.
NVIDIA is currently one of the largest private employers in Israel’s tech industry, with over 6,000 employees in five R&D centres around the country.
