German TV cancels Roger Waters concert over rocker’s antisemitism

A German public broadcaster on Saturday cancelled a scheduled concert by former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters following a campaign highlighting the rocker’s antisemitism.

The show, “Us and Them,” was scheduled to take place June 11, 2018, at Cologne’s Lanxess Arena.

The concert was nixed after Cologne resident Malca Goldstein-Wolf launched a petition to prevent the Westdeutscher Rundfunk television network from using public funds to sponsor the event. The petition referenced the rocker’s use of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery, and gained nearly 1,400 signatures.

Waters—who has compared the Israeli government to Nazi Germany and has claimed the “powerful Jewish lobby” runs the media—is arguably the most vocal figure behind the anti-Israel BDS movement. He also regularly pressures other artists to boycott performances in the Jewish state.

Roger Waters is scheduled to tour New Zealand in January 2018 and Australia the following month.

  1. Why can’t we get him through our racial vilification laws?
We don’t need this creep coming to our shores!
    Nix his concert !

  2. We should start a petition here too to prevent Waters performances in Australia. NB Nick Caves latest comments about Waters and how he pressures artists to not perform in Israel

  3. Israel journalist Gideon Levy was on ABC TV Lateline last night. Interesting interview.
