Having spent Rosh Hashanah with family in Melbourne, Adelaide-based Norman Schueler got a taste of the antisemitism being experienced in Victoria.

Standing on the Burke St pavement in Camberwell talking to his cousin, Norman saw a man making a salute and calling out “Sieg Heil” at the top of his voice.

Norman, a former longstanding president of the South Australia Jewish Community Council, told J-Wire: “He kept saying “we should have killed all the f***ing Jews and gave me the ‘up yours sign’.”

Norman Schueler was not wearing a kippah. The perpetrator did not appear to be intoxicated.

As the man kept going along Burke St, Norman followed him from a distance. Norman continued:  “A passerby who’d seen all this came to me telling me ‘this is terrible. You shouldn’t have to endure it’.  He eventually stayed with me and gave me moral support.”

The alleged abuser

According to Norman Schueler, the man did not try to run away and kept abusing him.

When the man crossed the road and went down Riversdale Road, Norman asked the person he was on the phone to contact CSG.  After 10 minutes with no contact, Norman called 000 and 10 minutes later the police arrived. He said: “They stayed with him for a while and then took him away. But I learned that he was not charged.”

It took a few days before Norman Schueler decided to speak out. He said: ” I kept quiet because I didn’t want to prejudice a court outcome. The fact is that they’re not doing anything, and they should have done something. And that’s why I’m speaking up.”

The CSG was called and took the matter up with the police.  The police said that they were going to contact Norman, but they did not.

Norman also emailed the The Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

Norman Schueler’s message is that when you actually find a person who exhibits this type of behaviour, he gets off scot-free.

The CSG confirmed to J-Wire that the man was not charged.

You’re right, Michael. However, it’s the same whatever the politics.

If you were gay ,LGBT or a Muslim and had this person vilify and intimidate you in the same manner under our Woke Labor govt and Woke police force you can bet the cops would have taken it more seriously, unfortunately Jews are exception to the rule when it comes to vilification !
