World conference for Moishe House members
Moishe House community builders from across the world gathered in Belgrade recently at an event fostering global connection and equipping participants to serve their communities back home with greater impact and purpose.
The GlobalCon 2023 conference marks a unique opportunity for these inspiring young adults to come together, exchange ideas, and explore the diversity of global Jewish communities.
With attendees hailing from Europe, Israel, Australasia, Asia, and the Former Soviet Union, this year’s GlobalCon united 104 residents and 15 staff members, including Moishe House’s CEO and Founder, David Cygielman.
Attending from Australasia were Udi Mayer and Rafi Mayer from Melbourne, Seth Schanzer from Auckland, Yael Adar and Tovia Jakovsky-Coleman from Sydney and from Perth, Tsur Tsaban.
David Cygielman said, “This event embodies the true spirit of Moishe House’s mission – connecting young Jewish adults from around the world and empowering them to create impactful change within their communities.”
Equipped with new skills and strengthened purpose, all 104 of these community leaders are poised to return home to make a transformative impact in their communities. The ripple effect of their efforts will extend to countless individuals.
In communities like Perth, Moishe House is the centrepiece of young adult engagement. These community builders have created spaces where individuals have a warm, welcoming place to connect with peers and create memories that are grounded in Jewish experiences.
GlobalCon offered an opportunity for Moishe House residents from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland to spend time together and learn from each other. Six motivated Moishe House residents are now returning home feeling better equipped to serve their communities and more connected to other young Jewish adults around the world. Tsur Tsaban, GlobalCon participant and founding member of Moishe House Perth, which opened this year, said, “I come from a very isolated city of the world. It doesn’t feel so after this conference.”
Auckland’s Seth Schanzer added: “It has been fantastic spending time with other Moishe House residents from all over the world, learning from each other, and discovering we have so much in common. I’m excited to share this experience with my friends back in Auckland.”
Raphael Mayer, GlobalCon participant and Moishe House Melbourne resident, said, “It’s been an absolute inspiration to see you all at GlobalCon. Jews coming from all over the world together. So proud to be part of this family.”
Moishe House has had an active presence in Australasia since Moishe House Melbourne opened in 2013, enabling emerging Jewish leaders to create meaningful communities for themselves and their peers, with four Houses and two MHWOW (Moishe House Without Walls) hosts currently active.
Collectively, they have engaged 29,797 participants at 1,699 programmes to date.
Moishe House is the global leader in engaging Jewish young adults in peer-led programming.
