Mount Scopus Memorial College in Melbourne has appointed Jonathan Feder as co-president alongside current president Amy Hershan, beginning a planned leadership transition as the school prepares for its future move to Caulfield.

Feder, a Mount Scopus Old Collegian and current parent, will serve with Hershan for the remainder of 2026 before becoming president on 1 January 2027.

Hershan will conclude her tenure at the end of 2026 after 15 years of service to the college. She joined the board in 2012 and became president in September 2014.

Principal Dan Sztrajt and the Mount Scopus community paid tribute to Hershan’s contribution, saying she had led the school through a period of significant change and growth, including the transition to a new principal and preparations for the college’s future move to Caulfield.

“It has been an incredible honour to serve as president of Mount Scopus,” Hershan said.

“Jewish education has never been more important, and I strongly believe the role the college plays in shaping proud, connected and confident young Jewish people is critical to the future of our community.”

Feder attended Mount Scopus from Prep to Year 12 and graduated in 1996. He is a partner at K&L Gates, specialising in intellectual property, and has held board and advisory roles with Opera Australia, Melbourne Theatre Company, the Melbourne Theatre Company Foundation and the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Music.

“I am thrilled to be joining Amy as co-president of Mount Scopus for the remainder of 2026 and then taking on the role of president from 2027,” Feder said.

“I am a proud Old Collegian. Mount Scopus has always played a significant role in my life, and I see a very bright future ahead for the college.”

Feder said he looked forward to working with the board, Sztrajt and the leadership team as Mount Scopus prepares to move to its new campus in the heart of Caulfield.

Founded in 1949, Mount Scopus Memorial College is one of Australia’s largest Jewish day schools, educating more than 1,500 students and progressing plans to consolidate its campuses at a new purpose-built site in Caulfield, creating a broader centre for Jewish life, education and culture.
