If you’re an emerging leader looking to make a lasting impact on our community, then United Israel Appeal (UIA) and Australian Jewish Funders (AJF) are inviting you to be a part of the annual Philanthropy Fellowship.

UIA NSW and JCA Philanthropy Fellowship 2022

Inspired by the vision of a thriving Jewish community, the 2023 Philanthropy Fellowship seeks to expand philanthropic leadership by harnessing the ambition, aspiration and passion of emerging trailblazers.

UIA NSW is collaborating with JCA on this exciting endeavour and both UIA NSW and UIA VIC’s Fellowship programs will be facilitated by Australian Jewish Funders (AJF).

Building on from two successful Fellowships which included 30 community members who are passionate about giving, this unique learning experience is delivered over seven weeks in NSW and six weeks in Victoria, and explores trends in philanthropy, collective giving and community building in a way that inspires emerging leaders to use their expertise and resources while providing the tools and strategies to do so. The ideal candidate is aged between 25 and 40 and is able to dedicate their time, talent, treasure, ties and testimonies to worthwhile causes and align their values with their philanthropy.

A 2014 North American study found that in the next five to 10 years, 75-90% of senior Jewish community leaders will retire or leave their positions. The Australian community is expecting a similar trend, so the next generation of community leaders is crucial to ensuring our continuity.

Some of the program’s highlights include access to an unparalleled network of Australian and international Jewish leaders in philanthropy, as well as insights into new tools, approaches, learnings and collaborations to grow effective philanthropy.

The program concludes with a night of giving, whereby participants will collectively decide on a project to support.

UIA CEO Yair Miller said: “This unique program and partnership enables younger philanthropists in our community to share an incredible opportunity to develop their critical thinking, gain an extensive understanding of the larger organisations in our community and appreciate the latest thinking in this deeply personal space. UIA is proud to have pioneered this program and be working with the JCA and Australian Jewish Funders to allow our next generation of donors the ability to develop and connect in new and meaningful ways.”

JCA CEO Alain Hasson is passionate about the development of future philanthropic leaders in our community. “Our future depends on the continued development and engagement of the next generation of people who not only understand why giving is important to them, but also why it is important for both our local Jewish community and Israel. As we become more global as a society and community, we cannot forget how important it is to ensure that Jewish life remains vibrant, secure and continues to thrive. The Philanthropy Fellowship connects aspiring philanthropists with leaders who are already committed and knowledgeable in the space, allowing them to share ideas and assist the next generation to forge their own path.”

The VIC Philanthropy Fellowship runs from 18 July – 22 August (6 sessions).

The NSW Philanthropy Fellowship runs from 30 July – 6 September (7 sessions).
