An online antisemitic post targeting Brisbane restaurant Yababi has seen the owners getting a flood of support on its Facebook page, with many showing keen willingness to make a booking to the popular eating place.

Yababa responded to the post, stating: “This is the second time that Yababa at Paddington is experiencing written motives of unnecessary hatred, false and incorrect messages.

‎‏Those are not going to change the fact that Yababa is, and will be, providing its customers with amazing Israeli cuisine, “The Israeli way”.

‎‏Yababa’s doors are wide open to all… Our existing customers and future customers… We’ll just keep doing what we know best.”

The Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies said the hate-fuelled online attack on an Israeli restaurant in Brisbane is outrageous.

President Jason Steinberg said he was disgusted and outraged at the hatred and antisemitic falsehoods shared on social media regarding this popular Israeli restaurant.
He said: “The vicious, defamatory attack on a Brisbane business owner solely based on his nationality and the cuisine he serves is nothing short of disgraceful. The reference to the blood libel is one of the sickest antisemitic tropes and a disgusting display of Jew-hatred.
The lies promoted by this individual show their complete lack of ignorance and lack of understanding of basic history.
All decent Queenslanders should be equally outraged by this act of hatred. It is not only an insult to the owner but to all Australians who believe in a tolerant, multicultural society that welcomes people of all nationalities and cultures.
I strongly suggest Queenslanders stand up against hatred and show their support for this small business by simply going and having a meal at Yababa. The food is amazing – and what better way to combat the haters than over a delicious meal.”
The owners of Yababa are Israeli.

I would describe people who make these disgusting statements as “faceless, ignorant cowards.” They either hide on social media sites or deface the windows and pavements when there is nobody around. The latter need to be caught in the act and dealt with accordingly. I would suggest that Yababa install cameras which hopefully will lead to prosecutions.
