The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion will examine antisemitism at Australian universities during public hearings in Melbourne from 13 to 17 July 2026.
Hearing Block 4 will hear from Jewish students, academics, universities and other educational institutions about the prevalence and impact of antisemitism on campuses and how institutions have responded.

The commission will also consider reports, surveys and studies on antisemitism in universities and other educational settings.
Universities are a key focus of the inquiry because of their role as major public institutions where safety, inclusion and freedom of expression intersect.
Evidence already presented to the commission has raised concerns about antisemitism affecting students and staff.
“Hearing Block 4 will hear from students, academics and educational institutions to understand the lived experiences, prevalence and impact of antisemitism in educational settings and investigate institutional responses to these issues,” Commissioner Virginia Bell AC SC said.
The commission received more than 20,000 submissions between 24 February and 14 June 2026, with more than one-third coming from Victoria.
The hearings will consider whether universities have responded adequately and what further measures may be needed to ensure campuses are safe and respectful.
Witness lists will be published on the commission’s website the day before each witness gives evidence.
The public can attend the hearings at 11 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, or watch the livestream online.
Further hearings will be held in Melbourne from 20 to 24 July, with details of Hearing Block 5 to be announced.
