On the other hand

In the midst of war, Israeli researchers continue to bring hope to humanity.

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a first-of-its-kind device for the treatment of adult patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Optune Pax, developed by Novocure, is a portable, non-invasive device that delivers alternating electrical fields, known as tumour treating fields (TTFields), to the abdomen. TTFields work by physically disrupting the rapid cell division that is characteristic of cancer cells, while minimising damage to healthy tissue.
  • For decades, open-heart surgery has meant one thing: opening the chest. A large incision, the sternum cut through, and weeks of painful recovery. For many patients, especially those with other health conditions, the very scale of that procedure placed surgery beyond reach. That is now changing.

* Sheba Medical Centre and Poriya Medical Centre have together performed the first robotic heart surgery in Israel and the Middle East using the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, offering patients a fundamentally different path to cardiac care: one that is less invasive, carries lower surgical risk, and shortens both hospital stay and recovery time.

* At Assuta Medical Center, doctors have successfully treated the first Israeli patient enrolled in the international OASIS clinical trial. This prospective, controlled study is evaluating a novel biological implant designed to improve outcomes in lumbar spinal fusion surgeries.
