Maccabi tennis’ youngsters were chosen by Tennis New South Wales to the Medibank Sydney International Tennis tournament at Sydney Olympic Park because of the talent and potential they have shown at Maccabi.

The kids took part in an on-court demo on the Ken Rosewall Centre Court prior to the first match on January 11, before welcoming Wozniaki and world number 32 Dominika Cibulkova onto court for their match.

Waiting for their heroes

As if that wasn’t enough for the kids, they got a backstage tour of the tournament site, getting shown around the interview rooms, the media centre and the players’ lounge where they saw world number 3 Kim Clijsters among a whole host of top tennis stars.

The day rounded out with a mini-coaching session with Luckasz Kubot and Oliver Marach, the number three seeds in the men’s doubles tournament (pictured).

Thanks to Maccabi Tennis’ Lucy Wood for this report. She proudly added: “the kids played like superstars and Tennis NSW were very impressed with the standard of play from our kids”.

The kids who were representing Maccabi Tennis: Malik Reed, Jack Bacon, Lee Charles, Minnie Hinchcliffe, Alex Hawkins, Christian Waked, Ethan Waked and Charlie Heffernan.
