Maccabi Junior Carnival 2020 in Perth was an unbelievable week of sport, fun active social events and more sport.

The WA organising committee was keen about a return to the Senior Carnival days of competitive State V State finals, with the week culminating in an Australia Day finals morning.

All those not in finals cheered fervently for their home states and the atmosphere was electric. There were plenty of sports on offer during the week including soccer, netball, basketball, futsal, beach volleyball, tennis, touch rugby and new popular additions  3 x 3 basketball, fast 5 netball, and a one session taekwondo competition. These competitive sports were balanced with fun sporting games such as tug of war and dodge ball so that everyone could select a sport they wanted to play.

WA also included an afternoon of All Ability sporting activities such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair 3 x 3 basketball, wheelchair archery, All-Inclusive sport games run by Football West and sponsored by The JCA Choice Foundation, and our junior soccer boys versus a WA state Para soccer team. All participants rotated through the activities and had a chance to do 2 of these sports – the wheelchair sports being a big favourite with everyone especially our 2 participants in moon boots as finally a sport they could be included in! A big thank you to The Choice Foundation in NSW who sponsored this afternoon. It really was very important for the kids to see sport through the eyes of others less fortunate and many commenting on this being one of the highlights of the week.

All the social activities were energetic which included The Simulation Centre indoor climbing and agility activities, outdoor laser tag and silent disco, night time 3×3 street basketball comp run by Vic Manager Erez Feinberg, and the final Aus Day BBQ with outdoor inflatable obstacle course and enormous inflatable human pool games and a farewell disco.

This successful carnival is totally in line with the Maccabi brand of Connecting our Jewish Community through Sport and Maccabi Australia couldn’t be prouder. As traditional, the dates of the next carnival were announced at the closing and many WA parents already diarising the dates for Melbourne carnival next year from 14th – 21st January – save the dates now!
