Outgoing Minister of Defence Benny Gantz rebuked Benjamin Netanyahu and his incoming new coalition government (should it be formed) for conceding what he feels are too many concessions being made to Israel’s Haredi (ultra-orthodox) parties on the issue of IDF service, among others.

He and other outgoing cabinet ministers have also been highly critical of the new coalition’s plan to pass a law allowing the Knesset to vote to nullify Supreme Court decisions and more.

Saying that the members of his political camp are not going to be suckers, Gantz made the following declaration about it on Monday:
It is proud to enlist, it has a tremendous sense of satisfaction from being in the reserves, and it loves the State of Israel.
It will never delay scholarships for soldiers or laws that will expand aid to the disabled in the IDF – he is in favour of those who serve.

And Gantz also asked a number of rhetorical – some might even say sarcastic – questions towards Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters:
I ask Netanyahu and each and every member of the coalition – if this is us, then what are you?
Are you the ones who will dissolve the Supreme Court?
Are you the ones who will turn the police into a servant in the hands of a politician? (This was in reference to Otzma Yehudit leader Itamar Ben-Gvir being given authority over the police in the next cabinet.)
Are you the ones who will cripple the army in the handling of Judea and Samaria?
Are you the ones who will close the people’s army? (Meaning the army of all Israel’s people as the IDF has been known.)

“If this is you, you will fail,” declared Gantz. “Israeli citizens see, watch – and record.”

Benny Gantz also slammed the Haredi people who do not serve in the IDF with a comment based on an old Israeli military saying. The former IDF Chief of Staff referred to what sergeants remind their soldiers during Shabbat when no work is required and no punishments can be enforced to promise some sort of reckoning someday.

“And as you know,” he said, “at least for those of you who served in the army – for every Shabbat, there is also a Motza’ei (after) Shabbat.”
