Five injured in car-ramming attack in downtown Jerusalem
Five people were injured in a car-ramming attack in central Jerusalem on Monday.
The attack took place at the intersection between Jerusalem’s iconic Mahane Yehuda shuk, a busy outdoor market, and Davidka Square in the heart of the city.
According to the Magen David Adom emergency response organisation, one man in his 70s is in serious condition, while one woman in her 30s is in moderate condition. A man in his 50s and two men in their 20s were lightly injured.
Three of the injured were evacuated to the Hadassah University Hospital-Ein Kerem, while the other two were taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Police confirmed that the driver was “neutralised.” It wasn’t clear if the police meant the terrorist was killed or injured. Unconfirmed reports suggested that the driver was a resident of eastern Jerusalem and that he was shot and killed.
The attack comes hours before Israelis mark a sombre Memorial Day at sundown, commemorating the country’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror.
