They say that beauty comes from within and after chatting to Grace Strous, keen Maccabi member, aged 15, it is obvious this is true.

Grace Strous

Grace is part of the Friends at Home program run through Friendship Circle. For the last year, like many other Moriah students, Grace has visited once a week her friend who has special needs to give back to the community. The love and bond that has been developed between Grace and her special friend is something she cherishes. Grace says, “Friends are for life and giving is so much better than receiving. I have learnt so much about myself and about life in general through this experience. I now understand not to judge people on appearance and to look beyond. Taking time to get to really know someone is so rewarding. We all have so many hidden gifts.” Grace explains, “Simple things like playing games, singing, assisting with homework can make a huge difference to someone with special needs. We take so much for granted.” What was highlighted throughout the conversation was the definite impact Grace has made on her dear friend by being a good friend with weekly visits becoming a ritual and a highly awaited event. It has changed both their lives for the better. Grace added, “The terrific thing is that it has also changed me as a person. I feel so much richer with a greater appreciation for everything. I enjoy the weekly visits more than I could ever imagine.”
