Rabbi tends to dying Catholic

January 15, 2009 by

On New Year’s Eve, the Jewish House’s CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel was the “pastor in charge” at the St Vincent’s emergency ward.  Fortunately, there were no Jewish patients to attend to on that night, but his night was not wasted.  There was a Catholic lady who was dying and needed some spiritual input. There was no priest around at the time, and she was happy for Rabbi Kastel to pray for her despite his not being Catholic.  It seems that the onset of death is a great equaliser.
