Prayers for shark attack victim
Sydney’s Emanuel Synagogue congregation said prayers on Friday night for the recovery of a surfer attacked by a shark.33-year-old Glenn Orgias was surfing off Sydney’s world-famous Bondi Beach on Thursday night when he became the city’s second shark attack victim in two days.
Rabbi Jeffrey Kamins told J-Wire that the Emanuel Synagogue which has family connections would conduct special prayers for Orgias’s recovery.
Orgias remains in a serious condition at the city’s St Vincent’s hospital where surgeons performed a lengthy operation in a bid to save his arm and hand. A family friend told J-Wire that he was “Out of danger.”
A fellow surfer who applied a tourniquet told media that Orgias had told him “tell Lisa I love her.” Lisa, Orgias’s wife, is the daughter of former Jewish National Fund President, Alan Slade.
The couple are expecting a baby.
This was the first shark attack at Bondi in 50 years. A surf patroller told media tha surfers received repeted warnings about surfing at dawn or dusk when the water are murky.
