Associate Professor John Barnett has perished in the Victorian bushfires along with his wife Jenny.

john-barnett-001The couple, believed to be in their sixties, were passionate campaigners for the protection of the bush.

They were found dead in their car at Steels Creek.

Barnett is believed to have emigrated to Australia about twenty years ago and worked  as a principal research fellow at Melbourne University. His chosen field was animal welfar, in particular, the care taken to look after animals on long distance transport  and to monitor the conditions in the chicken meat field.

Their home in Steels Creek was a weekend retreat.
