Australia, NZ & worldwide Jewish news that matters

Anat Vidor named a vice president of the World Jewish Congress

In a landmark appointment that cements Australia’s imprint on global Jewish leadership, World WIZO President Anat Vidor, formerly of WIZO NSW, has been elected Vice President for International Organisations at the World Jewish Congress (WJC).

Vidor’s elevation to one of the top posts in the world’s foremost Jewish representative body has been hailed as a moment of pride for Australian Jewry. The Israel-based leader, who once headed WIZO NSW, now steps into a role at the WJC that places her at the heart of international Jewish advocacy and diplomacy.

“This is not just about representation — it’s about action,” Vidor said following her appointment. “In these dangerous and challenging times for Jewish communities, including in Australia, our mission is clearer than ever. Zionism is the antidote to despair.”

Vidor’s ties to Australia remain strong. She shares the international spotlight with fellow Australian Jewish leader Robert Goot, Chair of the WJC’s Policy Council, who continues to play a vital role in shaping the Congress’s global agenda.

Together, the duo represents the enduring contribution of Australian Jewry to international Jewish life — a legacy underscored by Vidor’s journey from state-level leadership in NSW to the upper echelons of world Jewry.

Vidor, whose husband Gary made Aliyah and is a second-generation Holocaust survivor, says her activism is deeply personal. “When I question how much one person can do against overwhelming odds, he reminds me that every action counts. He is the power beneath my wings.”

She joins a leadership team that includes WJC President Ronald Lauder and Treasurer Chella Safra, pledging to focus on strengthening Jewish resilience and amplifying the voice of global communities in the face of mounting threats.

With WIZO’s reach spanning 38 federations and tens of thousands of members worldwide, Vidor’s appointment signals a new chapter in the global fight for Jewish empowerment and security — and a moment of recognition for the role Australian Jewry continues to play on the world stage.
