At 3:27 today, the Nation of Australia observed a period of silence….heralded by the saddened notes of a Shofar.Following a few short comments from a few if the leaders of all faiths represented at the Rod Laver Arena, the plaintive sounds of the Shofar were heard echoing through the silenced stadium.

The silence was accompanied by stirring images of the bush and its people. The Shofar was blown by 17-year-old Aron Goodheart, a member of the Mizrachi Synagogue and the Jewish Community was represented on the dias by Caulfield Synagogue’s Rabbi Ralph Genende.

The packed arena was addressed by, amongst many others, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Princess Anne, representing her Majesty, The Queen.
