Dudu Fisher’s grandmother was a Holocaust survivor determined not see her beloved grandson want for something to eat…so she bribed him daily after school to eat food placing a value on each item. Topping the list was a commodity rarely found in Nazi concentration camps…eggs.

Fisher told his story to Judy Kempler and Pnina Jacobson, two Sydney women who have spent over ten years compiling a cookbook chockfull of recipes and anecdotes from famous Jews around the world. Not only did Fisher produce a sweet story he also inspired the book’s title “One Egg is a Fortune”.

The book captures stories and recipes from 50 prominent members of the world-wide Jewish community.

    This is Herschal in Auckland. Hope you are both well.

    I just decided to make Kasha Varnishkes for a holiday meal and opened the book. (page 104)
    Turned out great and lots of compliments.

    They did not think of internationalizing it.
    The products used are only Aussie products and the temperature need to be shown in both centigrade and Fahrenheit
