It seems almost unbelievable that in a week when Jewish worshippers were gunned down in the USA there should be any good news to report…but what about a 95-yr-old enjoying his first sky dive and a revolutionary way to store food?
However as we see many times in our millennial encounters with those who wish us lethal harm the Jewish People eventually overcome all tragedies and emerge strengthened while our adversaries sink in the filth of their own twisted hate.
The best example of resilience and defiance in the face of adversity is the resurrection of Jewish pride and accomplishment as exemplified by Israel. Despite feverish efforts to strangle it at birth, the Jewish State after 70 years is a world leader in numerous fields. This week sees many more examples.
ANOTHER MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGH
Researchers at Ben-Gurion University say they have identified certain proteins, families of proteins and protein interactions with one another, and pinpointed what drugs best interact with and inhibit them, using a combination of state-of-the-art chemical methods and next-generation sequencing analysis.
The new method could help create more drugs that are target-specific and inhibit the ability of proteins to develop into a range of diseases, including certain cancers. The discovery could lead to “groundbreaking” preventative and therapeutic treatment methods, the researchers said.
ALTERNATIVE FUELS
A team of Israeli researchers says it has taken an important step toward the creation of environmentally friendly hydrogen-fueled cars.
The extraction of energy from hydrogen gas is a carbon-neutral, and thus environmentally friendly process, but there’s a catch: pure hydrogen gas is almost impossible to find on Earth. To this day, the main means for producing hydrogen gas at industrial scales are inefficient and produce the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
Scientists at Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba and the Technion in Haifa say they have found a key missing link in a chemical process involving solar power that could allow for the ongoing, automatic conversion of water into hydrogen fuel in a way that could become efficient enough to allow for the mass production of vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells. These are easier to refuel than electric batteries and should allow for far higher mileage than current battery technology allows.
