On the other hand

The first round of municipal elections in Israel has just concluded.

In localities where the mayoral candidates failed to gain more than 40% of the vote a second round will be held on 10 March. As in other democratic countries the turn out for local elections is always lower than for national ballots. This time the distraction of war in Gaza, missiles from Lebanon, hostages still being held by Hamas and general apathy meant that the turnout was only approximately 50%.

On the other hand, when national elections are eventually held the participation of voters will be high.

Polling booths may have experienced moderate crowds but shopping malls did a roaring business as Israelis flocked to take advantage of polling day specials.

A MOVING PERSONAL TESTIMONY

His revelations should serve as a wake-up call.
