Emanuel’s principal, Andrew Watt, said: “Mazal tov to the Class of 2023 on their strong HSC results. In addition to their commendable academic achievements, we are very proud of this cohort’s diligence, resilience and their significant and positive contribution to the culture of our School.

“Emanuel is a vibrant community of learners, where our educators are much more than teachers; they are mentors, inspirers, and unwavering supporters. We are deeply thankful for the pivotal role they play in equipping our students for the rigours of independent study and the dynamic challenges of the future workplace. Their dedication to nurturing both the personal wellbeing and academic progress of our students is a cornerstone of our community and will have a lasting impact on our graduates as they embark on exciting new chapters in their lives.”

Arielle Melamed

Arielle Melamed (ATAR 99.65), Dux of the School, shared what inspires her: “I’m driven by the opportunities that arise from dedication and hard work – both academically and beyond the classroom. Choosing subjects that I genuinely enjoyed and being authentically curious about matters of the world simultaneously fuelled my motivation to work hard, and study hard.

“History Extension was my favourite subject due to its versatility in encompassing both critical thinking and writing skills. My Major Work provided the most welcome freedom to explore a topic of interest – mine being the Chinese Communist Party’s weaponisation of history to delegitimise Hong Kong’s local identity. This allowed me to turn research, my creative writing flair and critical analysis of sources into a tangible product I was proud to call my own.

“Though frustrating at times, I’d also be remiss not to mention English Extension 2, due to the uninhibited freedom it provided, and the literary whimsy, absurdity, and existential wonderings it encouraged me to embrace. “

Andrew Watt continued, commenting on the importance of a focus on the development of the whole child. “Our commitment is to the holistic development of each student. We value and support every step of their educational journey, celebrating achievements in all forms: academic, artistic, athletic, and community service, to name a few. Our focus remains steadfast on helping each student reach their personal best, in an environment that fosters growth, learning, and resilience. Some of our students have battled with and overcome significant personal challenges in their final years of school, and we are proud to have supported them in successfully completing their High School journey. We also recognise the hard work and dedication all our students demonstrate year after year.

“As Emanuel alumni, they graduate equipped to be the best that they can be and to make a difference for good, in their Jewish and broader communities.”
