Community hears bipartisan support for Israel

Three Federal Members of Parliament told an information meeting in Sydney their reasons for supporting Israel in the aftermath of the Gaza Flotilla incident.

ALP members Mark Dreyfus and Dr Mike Kelly joined Liberal M.P. Malcolm Turnbull in expressing their views at the meeting in the city’s Central Synagogue.

The meeting was organised by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and the Zionist Council of NSW with the involvement of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

Another meeting attended by 250 members of Sydney’s north shore community turned out for a gathering in St Ives in response to the flotilla issue.

The information meeting was addressed by NSW Jewish Board of Deputies vice-president Yair Miller, Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff and Jewish Agency Board of Governors member Ron Weiser, each of whom tackled different aspects of the crisis.

It was organised jointly by the five north shore synagogues, chaired by Rabbi Paul Lewin and held at Kehillat Masada.
