Well-known Sydney Antique dealer, Alan Landis will lead a Jewish Antiques Roadshow as part of the celebrations of the 140th anniversary of Sydney’s The Great Synagogue.

Alan has forty years’ experience and is a Life Fellow of the Powerhouse Museum. Joining him will be silver specialist Jolyon Warwick James and jewellery dealer Karen Deakin, all well known and highly respected in their fields, with over 100 years of combined experience. You will be able to have three (portable) items valued for just $20.

Bring your treasures to be valued and celebrate 140 years of The Great Synagogue next Sunday, November 25 between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm

2018 is an important milestone in the history of the Australian Jewish Community. It marks 140 years since the opening of the Great Synagogue, Elizabeth Street, Sydney in 1878.

They will also be showing the film ‘Old Songs in a New Land”, made in 1988 about the history of Jews in Australia, featuring Rabbi Apple and Susan Rutland, also included in the film  is the story of Russian Jews coming to Australia with stories of two Russian girls having a batmitzvah and a Russian  boy having a circumcision as well as other history to that date. One of the batmitzvah girls is Allanah Zitserman, who produced Ladies in Black, this year.

All ages are welcome to attend as there will be kids activities and a kosher coffee cart to pick up a drink or snack.

  • Australian Jewish Historical Society and Australian Jewish Genealogical Society’s family’s historical Q&As;

It’s going to be a fun, full and fascinating day!

Entry is $10 and under-16s are free.
