A team of three students at the University of New South Wales has won the “Big Idea” social enterprise competition to aid the homeless and unemployed.

Team Velo: Lu-yang Liu, Vera-Min Stephenson and Alan Jackson

The three were lead by former Masada College student Alan Jackson who is an industrial design student at the university.

Along with team members Luyang Liu and Vera-Min Stephenson, Jackson worked on an idea

He said: “Our concept provides the unemployed with a springboard back into the community, while also introducing much-needed infrastructure, as there isn’t much bike storage available in the city.”

Jackson’s Team Velo, has designed inner-city bike shelters that will employ the homeless as attendants, scanning in commuters’ bikes for storage during work hours.

At the awards ceremony in Melbourne, the winners each received an iPad and $1,000.
