Randwick councillor calls for healing and inclusion during Harmony Week
Councillor Daniel Rosenfeld is set to present a motion at next week’s Randwick Council meeting on Tuesday calling for Harmony Week celebrations to focus on healing for the Jewish community in response to rising antisemitism in the local area.

The motion acknowledges a rise in antisemitic incidents in Sydney’s Randwick since October 2023 and condemns them completely. It also urges the Council to ensure the Jewish community is included in Harmony Week promotions by sharing stories that foster understanding, healing, and cultural appreciation.
Cr Rosenfeld, the only Jewish councillor on Randwick Council since 2021, has personally felt the impact of these tensions.
“As a proud member of the Jewish community, I have experienced firsthand the distress caused by the recent surge in antisemitic attacks. No one should feel unsafe or unwelcome in their own community,” he said.
“Harmony Week is about celebrating our rich cultural diversity, and it is vital that we use this opportunity to build bridges and heal divisions.”
Harmony Week, running from 17 to 23 March 2025, is a national celebration of inclusivity, respect, and belonging. Cr Rosenfeld’s motion aims to recognize the contributions of the Jewish community and ensure their experiences are acknowledged.
“Randwick has always been a community that values diversity, and I believe that by openly sharing stories from the Jewish community alongside other cultural groups, we can create greater understanding and unity,” Cr Rosenfeld added.
The motion will be debated at the Council meeting, with the councillor encouraging all community members to support the initiative in promoting inclusivity and respect.
