Jewish Care Rabbis Yisroel Kohn, Minister, Montefiore Homes Community Residence and Yoni Reyder, Minister Mark & Dina Munzer Community Residence, were amongst those successfully completing the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) course. The program was a partnership between Jewish Care, The Rabbinical Council of Victoria, The Alfred Hospital and The Healthcare Chaplaincy Council of Victoria.

“Pastoral and spiritual care is a key part of our work and, as Rabbis, we can spend a significant amount of time in nursing homes and hospitals at crucial stages in people’s lives,” said Rabbi Kohn.

“The CPE course enhanced our skills and capacity in providing appropriate and effective pastoral care to the diverse range of members of our community, including but not limited to Jewish Care residents and clients. The course included interesting theological discussions and we worked through a range of real-life case study scenarios and practical solutions. It is definitely going to assist us in pastoral care, making visits more meaningful and valuable.”

Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant, General Manager, Jewish Care Cultural and Spiritual Centre, said with more than 4,500 significant pastoral interactions across the organisation last year, it was important for Jewish Care to set an example.

“Our pastoral care programs extend throughout the community, and we are looking forward to working more closely with Jewish leaders from all quarters of religious life to participate in this wonderful educational opportunity,” he said.

“Jewish Care is proud to take a leadership role in providing opportunities for Rabbis to improve their skills to benefit all members of our community.”
