Penny Wong

Melbourne-based Janet Sernack created the “Prevent Senator Penny Wong from Representing Australia at the 80th Auschwitz Commemoration” petition.

She wrote on the web page hosting it: “This event is a solemn reminder of the horrors that befell our people and serves as a moment to reflect on the resilience and enduring spirit of our community. It is our firm belief that our representation at such an emotionally charged event should reflect this sentiment aptly.

Unfortunately, we feel strongly that Senator Penny Wong is not the right person to represent us at this critical juncture. Throughout her tenure, she has not shown the level of understanding, empathy or compassion that our community expects and deserves, especially during these troubling times where antisemitism is on the rise in Australia. This evident lack of sensitivity undermines her capability to duly represent our interests and preserve the dignity of the occasion.”

Sernack has received strong support from Liberal Senator James Paterson.

Highly insensitive in my opinion one really has to wonder the mindset of the prime minister.

Good for the record book I guess, as in many other instances down through history.
