The New Israel Fund Australia is to host a special evening filled with beautiful music and conversation with two outstanding performers and activists to mark the first night of Chanukah.

Mira Awad and Noa Nini

Jewish Israeli singer Achinoam Nini (Noa) and Palestinian Israeli singer Mira Awad are known for their ongoing efforts to create a more equal and tolerant society for all Israelis and Palestinians. A highpoint of their collaboration was when they represented Israel at Eurovision 2009 in Moscow singing together in Hebrew, Arabic and English.

“As Chanukah is a time of bringing more light into the world, we’ll be able to listen to Noa and Mira’s beautiful music and hear more about their work that celebrates peace, equality and social justice,” said NIF Australia executive director Liam Getreu.

He added: “This year has been challenging for everyone which is why NIF Australia is presenting an evening filled with light and inspiration from these talented artists.” In 2016 NIF Australia hosted sold-out events with Noa in Sydney and Melbourne.

The event will include musical performances, discussion with the artists on the political and social impact of their music, and how their music is able to provide inspiration and optimism in challenging times. The evening will also include candle lighting to mark the holiday of Chanukah.

Noa is one of Israel’s leading international singer/songwriters. She has released over 15 albums in six languages, which have sold millions of copies. Beyond her passionate commitment to music, Noa dedicates much of her time to promoting peace and dialogue between Israel and Palestine. She is an outspoken advocate for the two-state solution. Noa has collaborated with numerous artists in the Arab world and is on the international board of the New Israel Fund. She raises her voice against injustice and for human rights and equality in Israel and abroad, in song and writing, whenever possible.

Mira Awad is an award-winning actress, singer, songwriter, teacher, composer and cultural activist. She has released two solo albums, and collaborated with many international artists. As an actress, Mira participated in numerous theatre productions as well as starring on the popular Israeli series “Arab Labor”. She hosted several TV shows and created and co-wrote the TV drama “Muna”. Mira is an artivista – a person who engages in artivism. She is very much identified with the agenda of dialogue and co-existence, and uses her stage visibility to promote peace and human solidarity.

The event is on Thursday 10 December from 8pm – 9:15pm. Bookings can be made at:
