On the other hand
How many days of sunshine does Israel experience on an annual basis? This question was prompted after I read an item on a Wellington (NZ) news site where it was reported that the City Council had widened footpaths in an area of the Capital to provide outside seating for patrons of nearby cafes and delis. The only problem, according to one local café owner, was that the weather was not exactly conducive to outdoor hospitality.
Having lived for 41 years in “windy” Wellington, I can attest to the fact that calm and warm days are the exception rather than the rule.
That is why we revel in the reality of an average of 300 sunny days and approximately 60 rainy days annually in Israel, which makes outdoor entertaining such a pleasurable experience.
FROM HEBRON TO JERUSALEM
At a time when the historical connection of the Jewish People to any part of Israel is under constant delegitimization, it is important to make sure that our presence is constantly reinforced.
On Jerusalem Day, it has become a tradition for cyclists to set out from Hebron, the city of our Patriarchs and Matriarchs, and cycle to the Kotel in Jerusalem.
The Jewish connection between these two ancient Biblical cities is an undisputed fact. It is inspiring to see hundreds of Israelis, young and old, traversing what was once the pilgrimage route to the Temple.
Where once they walked and rode donkeys and camels, today they cycle.
