Meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus

Representatives of the Australian Jewish and Hellenic communities have met with the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris.

Vakis Zisimos (Deputy Head of Mission, Republic of Cyprus in Australia), Michael Christodoulou (Australian Cypriot community), Natalee Pozniak (Communications Manager, NSW Jewish Board of Deputies), His Excellency Mr Demetris Syllouris (President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus), Peter Wertheim (co-CEO, ECAJ), Martha Mavrommati (High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia), Diane Symonds(President, Women’s International Zionist Organisation, NSW), George Vardas (Australian Hellenic Council), Socrates Socrates (Director-General of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus), Evi Hadjiyianni (Director, Cyprus International Relations Service)

President Syllouros was accompanied by members of the inter-parliamentary delegation on their visit to Australia.

The meeting in Sydney was organised by Martha Mavrommati, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia, and The Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Peter Wertheim.

The discussion covered the most recent developments in the flourishing tri-lateral friendship between Israel, Greece and Cyprus, and explored avenues for building on the already-excellent relationship between the Jewish, Hellenic and Cypriot communities in Australia.

His Excellency Mr Demetris Syllouris, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, presents a model of an ancient Hellenic trireme (war-ship) to Peter Wertheim, co-CEO of the ECAJ.
