Jesse Meguideche has been listening to stories from his customers about Covid-19 at his bakery in the Sydney harbourside suburb of Rose Bay including one expressing concerns about the future for his work, and for his family and children.

At Jesse’s Bakery the customer was buying challah for Shabbat and cupcakes for his kids and his story added to the tales of woe from people started talking about job losses, and finances.

Jesse was shocked and realised that many people will be in this situation right now.
He decided to come up with a way to help people to have enough for celebrating Shabbat and bread for the weekends.
Ramona Freedman from The Kashrut Authority helped him put together the best way to support his customers.
He told J-Wire: “Ramona is a wonderful person and is she’s always there helping shops and customers.’ he said.
Ramona posted a message on FB  inviting anyone to place an order using the code COVID-19 ORDER.

This order will comprise of:
⭐️ 2 Large Challot of your choice
⭐️ 2 Mini Challah Rolls
⭐️1 Chocolate or Cinnamon Babke
⭐️1 Loaf of square wholemeal or white bread OR
⭐️ 1 Loaf of Sourdough bread
When picking up an order, it will simply have the customer’s name on the bag with the word ‘PAID’ – just like all the other orders.
If the person ordering is elderly and unable to get out, delivery is free.
Jesse told J-Wire: “The response has been amazing. So many people have emailed us. That makes me so happy.  We currently have six volunteer drivers for deliveries.”
Jesse says the community needs to stick together. Pesach is coming up. There will be a lot more need, and people asking for help. “They can take what they can afford. It is the minimum that we can do to help each other.

Jesse’s Bakery

This is a time when people and communities all over the world need to step up, step in, and to help each other. I want to give to more people, to give as much as I can, and we are finding ways to work this out, to find out what people need and to see how we can make this all happen.”

Jesse just wants to make sure that people come in and ask for this. “I hope that what I am doing is an example to everyone, to show how we can help each other.”
