The documentary Things Would Have Been So Different Had Lionel Returned, about a Sydney woman’s family’s experiences during WWII will be shown at the NAJEX Remembrance ceremony in Sydney on Sunday.
It’s a moving story, with universal themes and includes family footage and photos from the archives of NCJWA NSW steering committee member Viki Nadel.
Three of the seven Goldsmith family children enlisted in WW11, Lionel, Oliver and Viki’s mother Gwendolen all serving overseas.
Lionel a rear gunner in the New Zealand Airforce never returned, shot down over Germany in September 1943 and buried with full military honours by the Luftwaffe.
The ceremony followed by the film will take place at the Sydney Jewish Museum on Sunday 8 November from 9.30 am.
