A small but vibrant synagogue on Sydney’s North Shore has invited dignitaries in its neighbourhood for Shabbat dinner.

Rabbi Gad Krems of the Kehillat Masada Synagogue in the leafy suburb of St Ives told J-Wire: “We felt it would be a good move to reach out to broader community and make friends from acquaintances.”

If Friday night’s service and the dinner following prove to the hoped-for success, then the community will have made many friends from the 150 invited for the evening.

The event is being co hosted by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and Kehillat Masada Synagogue.

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff commented: “The Jewish community has enjoyed a long and active presence in the St Ives area, and we are holding this event as an opportunity to connect with some of the excellent organisations that comprise this great part of the world. We are honoured that so many political, civic and community leaders will be joining us.”
