Maxwell Hopp believes his is the only Jewish family in the NSW regional town of Griffith but he had little difficulty in encouraging twenty cyclists to don yellow ribbons and join him in a bike ride to show support for Israel.

He emailed his cycling mates to join the worldwide ride, which had support from world cycling start Chris Froome

Maxwell, head of pediatrics at Griffith Memorial Hospital, told J-Wire: “I explained how important this issue was to me and my family and expected a few of my close friends to turn up.

I was overwhelmed by the response. We followed the 70K cycle with all participants and their partners, invited over to “Hopp Inn” (my home) for coffee and snacks in Jewish Style in quantity with my wonderful wife Julia who worked hard preparing food for days and was thrilled to do so.  Many wonderful hours were spent fressing and schmoozing, all highlighting their unconditional support for Israel.”

Thanks all for your kind words. All of our hearts are breaking for the the hostages and their families and for Israel. My profound gratitude is for our friends’ support. Their decision to join me in this cause, despite it being outside of their own cultural or religious background, speaks volumes about their character and commitment to humanitarian efforts. Their bravery and solidarity touched both me and my wife deeply, and we are overwhelmed by their gesture of support.
