Feintooner: The Medieval Times
The New York Times cartoon is ostensibly a blind Netanyahu taking a selfie of himself while holding up tablets of the Law most likely descending Mount Sinai.

Despite apologizing on April 28 for running an antisemitic cartoon that ran in its international edition on Thursday, “The New York Times“ published another antisemitic cartoon in the same edition over the weekend. Credit: VG.
This cartoonist is not satisfied to go back a mere 70 years to Der Strumer for inspiration but rather goes back approximately 1000 years to the “Synagoga” sculpture of the Notre-Same Cathedral:

This medieval sculpture evokes the Supersession/ Replacement theology of the “defeated” Jewish religion (“Synagoga”) sculpted as a defeated woman, blindfolded by a snake (evil), head bowed ,carrying a broken rod in one hand , and the Tablets slipping out of her other hand.
In this vile cartoon Netanyahu is Synagoga who like her is blinded, carries a broken rod ( the selfie stick which is useless and broken because he is blind). Instead of Tablets falling from his hand , he is elevating what might appear to be tablets, but are not. It is a single tombstone with a Jewish Star and stripes (Flag of Israel) conveying the hopes and aspirations of the cartoonist that Israel /Judaism is dead theologically and
Instead of the tablets falling, the tombstone is raised.
This is the midrash behind this Feintooner cartoon:
In this cartoon, the Times cartoon has been reproduced with Synagoga’s snake covering Netanyahu’s eyes demonstrating the ancient and medieval anti-semitic influence of this Times cartoon. The raised tombstone is engraved with R.I.P. identifying it as indeed a tombstone.
This second Times cartoon should not be given a pass either, and needs to be called out.
