Hundreds of Gazan rioters gathered along the security fence in northern Gaza, threw explosive charges and clashed with Israeli forces, the most violent clashes in the area in months.

The rioters attempted to climb the security fence, and the IDF responded with riot dispersal means and accurate fire at armed suspects.

While assaulting the border fence, an armed terrorist shot at an Israeli Border Police soldier, Barel Hadarya Shmueli, 21, who was critically injured in the head. He is in critical and life-threatening condition after undergoing surgery.

The terrorist who shot him is said to be a member of Hamas’ security forces.

During the violent clash, terrorists attempted to steal an IDF soldier’s weapon. The troop fought and managed to prevent them from taking the weapon.

Some 25 rioters were injured in the incident, mostly from gunshot injuries to the legs.

In response to the violent riots Hamas instigated on the Israel-Gaza border, IAF fighters struck four Hamas weapons storage and manufacturing sites.

Gazan terrorists responded by firing at the planes. Several of the shells landed in the city of Sderot and caused light damage to property.

In accordance with the IDF’s assessment of the situation, it was decided to reinforce the Gaza Division with additional forces, including Special Forces and more Irion Dome Defense Batteries.

“Hamas continues to lead the Gaza Strip to a policy of terrorism while exploiting the civilian population. The IDF will continue to respond strongly to terrorist attempts from the Gaza Strip and considers the Hamas terrorist organization to be responsible for everything that happens in the Gaza Strip,” the military stated.

These strikes came after Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s government failed to respond to a rocket attack on Sderot last week.

Sdot Negev Regional Council head Tamir Idan said that what has been happening in recent weeks in the south is “a direct result of the lack of deterrence that has existed in recent years, especially after Operation Gordian of the walls. The lack of response of the current government is a disgrace. The government must understand that its lack of response sends a very serious message that our blood has been forfeited.”

“The preoccupation with which of the terrorist organizations is responsible for the terrorist acts is irrelevant, in the Gaza Strip there is one address and that is Hamas!” he stated.

He called on Bennett and the Minister of Defense to “reacted very strongly without delay. Not to bomb empty dunes, but to hit the snake’s head and eliminate the leaders of Hamas even at the cost of escalation. You promised to change the equation with the terrorist organizations – this is the time to keep that promise.”
