Matt Thistlethwaite noted that “As our community emerges out of lockdown, I believe it’s important that we continue to recognise the unsung heroes that volunteer their time and skills for our community”.

The annual award program received the highest number of nominations ever because of the challenges of Covid 19 and the role volunteers played in keep spirits and hope up and the wheels of NFP organisations ticking over.

Kathy Sharp received her award for her leadership through her role as the Vice-Chair of the Courage to Care Board for many years, with her nomination citing her passion, values, energy, drive and commitment to staff, volunteers and Holocaust survivors and her dedication to help Australia become a more tolerant and harmonious society for all and for people to be an upstander against social injustice, racism and discrimination.

Vicki Israel received the Kingsford Smith Community Service Award for her tireless volunteer work since Courage to Care first started and more recently for managing the Social Media and Newsletter she publishes each month – particularly during Covid this has kept the volunteers connected with information, news, stories and humour.
