YOUTH DIRECTOR

An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Central Synagogue Sydney for a motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual to lead the youth activities of our community. The successful candidate will embody the principals of The Central Synagogue which is an active and vibrant Jewish centre for all ages, which stands solidly on the foundations of:

    • Traditional Orthodox Judaism,
    • Zionism, Jewish Community,
    • Jewish Continuity and
    • Personal Jewish Lifecycle.

This full time role is fitting for an individual who is interested in developing long term roots within a major Synagogue and enjoys directing, developing and managing youth programs and initiatives. The major responsibility is to coordinate and lead all youth and young adult activities at The Central Synagogue include organising, mentoring and managing the Hineni youth movement, directing youth services and programs and general contact for all young adult activities.

Primary Responsibilities include:

    1. Youth Activities: Co-ordinate all youth activities at The Central Synagogue including activities and events related to religious services and Jewish lifecycle, as well as creating a series of programs and activities in the Paul and Eva Lederer Youth Campus
    2. Hineni: Act as the primary point of contact between The Central Synagogue and Hineni whilst being a mentor, spiritual leader and guide for all Hineni members
    3. Young Adults: Develop and manage a young adult (aged 18-35) group and or regular activities and events

Core Competencies must include:

    • Skills and knowledge to conduct all weekday and Shabbat services
    • A strong Zionist connection and affiliation.
    • Previous work experience within a modern Orthodox environment.
    • Ability to work with multiple personalities and differing opinions.
    • Ability to multi-task and to show initiative.
    • Driven, energetic and charismatic.
    • Program management and execution skills.
    • Strong leadership and diplomacy skills.
    • Sound networking skills and abilities.
    • Conflict management and resolution.
