U.N. goings on
September 28, 2012 by Emily Gian
On Monday, Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the UN Assembly in a high level meeting on the rule of law. Having walked out in protest, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nation’s Ron Prosor made the perfect analogy when he declared, “the leader of a lawless country that repeatedly violates the basic principles of rule of law has no place in this hall. It is an absolute disgrace that this kind of man is given a voice on such an important issue…writes Emily Gian. Read more

A Ginsburg Session
September 27, 2012 by Lloyd Bradford Syke
True to cliche, I get (even) sillier as I get older. Having painstakingly taken notes (on the back of a ticket and Woolies docket) in deference to my unreliable memory at The Mark Ginsburg Band’s Sound Lounge gig last Saturday evening, I thoughtlessly discarded them almost immediately afterwards in a bin on Redfern station. In my defence, it was late and I was tired. Regardless, with a little bit of help from Mark, I shall boldly go and venture forth with my opinions and estimations of two sets, as best I recall the detail…writes Lloyd Bradford Syke. Read more

Pappe on Q&A
September 21, 2012 by Emily Gian
As a student of literature, I find the narrative of a story is of the utmost importance. It drives the novel, and keeps us, the audience, interested in the point of view of the author. Tower & Stockade Settlements – Version 2.0; Bedouin Autonomous Region in the Negev
September 10, 2012 by Ari Briggs
In the middle of the Arab uprising of 1936, the Jewish settlement of Kfar Hittim in the Gallil was established, on 2000 dunam of land which the Jewish National Fund had purchased in 1905. David Ben Gurion, who was then the head of the Jewish Yishuv, gave his tacit approval, as long as it could be completed in one day, and the plan was carried out. The purpose of these settlements was to establish facts on the ground, to ensure that Jewish- owned land would be included in the future State of Israel. Those were tough days. Arab gangs were intent on trying to kill as many Jews as possible and wreaking havoc, in order to convince the British to limit Jewish immigration…writes Ari Briggs. Read more
