Erkan Kemal, accused of driving into a Jewish crowd during a Palestine-Israel protest in the Melbourne suburb of Caulfield, has had his case delayed.

Facing two charges of reckless conduct, he appeared in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court today.

Allegedly, he drove his car into a group of Jewish individuals at the protest on Hawthorn Rd in Caulfield South on November 10 last year, endangering serious injury.

The court heard police claim his actions posed serious, potentially life-threatening risks to others. Stemming from violence following the torching of Burgertory in Caulfield South, protests erupted, leading to clashes at a synagogue and Princes Park. Disputes, including identification, between Mr. Kemal and the police were cited.

Magistrate Ross Maxted postponed the hearing to May 17, granting bail with a condition barring him from attending protests or public gatherings.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 17.
