Last weekend’s Queensland Australia Labor Party Conference joined that of NSW in supporting recognition of Palestine…a move welcomed by former Foreign Minister Bob Carr.

Except Queensland went further – and instead of supporting “consultation” of likeminded countries “towards” recognition of Palestine, declared simply that if Israel continues to build and expand settlements “a future Labor government will join 132 likeminded nations in conferring diplomatic recognition of the Palestinian Authority.”

As in NSW, the resolution was supported across the factions and was carried on the voices.

Mr Carr , who moved the motion in NSW, said the Queensland party, like the NSW party, applauded the last Labor government for its vote to enhance Palestinian status in the General Assembly, for opposing Israeli settlements and for branding all such settlements illegal under international law.

“Like the NSW resolution, the Queensland resolution applauded the decision of the Palestinian Authority to commit to a demilitarised Palestine with the presence of international peacekeepers.”

Mr Carr also welcomed the decision of the Queensland party to urge Federal MPs who go to Israel to spend equal time inspecting conditions in various cities in the West Bank.

“I expect this approach will be endorsed at all levels in the party. It is overdue.”

It has a lot to do with the hysterical impotence of a party , Labor, confined to political irrelevance both in NSW and Qld., not to mention Federally. They would act against the official policy of the Government in Canberra out of frustration and revenge, what we call in Israel, some kind of “dafka”.
Carr, by far the MOST irrelevant of all desperates, has as much pull on matters of international affairs as a cockroach headbutting a church gate.
Labor may have a chance to get into power and decide foreign policy in some 12 years, if incredibly lucky !!! By then Bob Carr would be dribbling on his wheelchair, but still ranting in the belief that he matters.
