BRW Trifecta
High profile members of the community have taken out the three top spots in the BRW Rich 200 list released on Wednesday.
Anthony Pratt who recently took over control of the Pratt companies following the death of his father, Richard, tops the list with family wealth shown to be $4.3 billion. Shopping centre mogul Frank Lowy is hot on the Pratt heels with an estimated $4.2 billion while Meriton apartment-builder Harry Triguboff holds the third spot with an estimated $3.6 billion.
James Packer has slipped to sixth spot. The amounts do not necessarily reflect a successful year. Most billionaires have seen dramatic decreases in their fortunes.
Topping the list of the country’s wealthiest families is Melbourne’s Smorgon family. Their fortune was originally made in the meat business, but the family today has diverse interests and is estimated by the BRW to be worth $2.20 billion.
