Sydney’s Emanuel Synagogue has announced the return of the Australian Chamber Orchestra to the synagogue on November 26 for an inspiring, intimate performance in the elegant surrounds of the New Sanctuary.

ACO perform at The Emanuel in 2017

This will mark the fourth year that the ACO has performed at the synagogue and each has proven extremely popular with the community; this will mark the first time in the new sanctuary and follows the amazing success of the Shir Madness Music Festival at Emanuel in October.

This extraordinary evening led by ACO Artistic Director and Lead Violin Richard Tognetti will see the ACO present a beautiful selection of classical masterpieces. The concert will also include a short performance by talented local students from Emanuel School and Moriah College alongside ACO musicians.

A definite highlight of the evening will be a duet performed by Richard Tognetti and Satu Vänskä, ACO Principal Violin, of a movement from the Bach double concerto.  ACO Principal Cello Timo-Veikko Valve, will also be performing a solo.  This will be magnified by the quality of instruments that will be onstage during these performances, as they are three of the finest, and most rare, stringed instruments in Australia.  Richard plays the 1743 ‘Carrodus’ Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù; Satu, the 1726 ‘Belgiorno’ Stradivarius; and Timo-Veikko, the 1616 Hieronymus and Antonio Amati cello.  Hearing these instruments in an intimate setting played by musicians of their calibre is certain to be a thrilling experience. In addition, the students will be performing music by Mendelssohn with ACO musicians.

This will be the last opportunity to see the ACO performing in Sydney this year. Emanuel’s CEO, Suzanna Helia commented: “We are thrilled at the prospect of bringing the ACO to our beautiful new sanctuary, ensuring an unprecedented level of intimacy for this night of emotional, classical wonder. I know that our members, as well as those of the broader community who appreciate beautiful music, are looking forward to this special night.”

Emanuel Synagogue is proud to donate a percentage of the profits from ticket sales to the synagogue’s social welfare work.

The ACO is one of the world’s most acclaimed ensembles, renowned for its inspired programming and boundless virtuosity, energy and individuality. Emanuel Synagogue is a pluralist community affiliated with the Masorti, Progressive and Renewal movements. Established 80 years ago in Woollahra, Emanuel is now the largest congregation in Australia and recently completed the first stage of a major redevelopment for its growing community.

Ticket prices for this special evening have been retained at 2017 levels and start at $85. They are now available at tinyurl.com/acoconcert1or by calling Emanuel on 9389 6444.  Doors open at 6:30pm and the performance begins at 7:00pm.
